Poem #21 "The term formally known as Introvert” Written by Edword (With Reflections)
We need another version of the word that they ruined
they turned the last one into “shy”
the extro version into “personable”
and besides
it was getting crowded.
We couldn’t all be inward
and if you are indeed one of us
this won’t be an intro
into the why,
Because when you first experienced loneliness you didn’t even know what it was
just a yearning that came over you
an absence that you yourself couldn’t get the better of
and it shocked you
because your solitude was never defined by what you were trying to drown out
as much as what you were trying to drown in
it’s the product of the most profound obsession
a penchant for self exploration verging on absorption
and right then you know it
the guilt you feel
owing
to the realisation
that you did love people,
in the most genuine way, all along,
just you, much more.

REFLECTIONS
I wrote this piece about the term formally known as introversion because I felt like we need another word, but even more so another outlook. I have always attributed my own introversion more so than anything to a self love of sorts, and foundationaly I think this is the case for most of us “formally known as introverts” (before everyone started calling themselves introverts and spoiled it lol). I am not shy at all and I can’t say I ever really have been, but I really, really enjoy myself (hehe). Alongside this, I thought it would be interesting to draw out the polarity of this truth in the fact that sometimes, introversion is selfish. I will speak for myself first in saying that I can be so caught up in my own self exploration that I neglect the exploration of others, I spend enough time with myself to acknowledge this. Fortunately for us, God puts a little reminder in us all that no man is an island in the shape of a lonely feeling, if you belong to the club and this is speaking to you, reach out to a friend, you might find that you need it as much as they do.
If you made it this far God bless you! Until next time, with love, Edword <3
